claude-progress
claude-progress is a VS Code extension for watching Claude Code work. Claude writes a checklist at the start of a long task, but normally you only see it ticked off at the end. claude-progress shows every running session’s checklist moving in real time, and its companion, claude-stats, shows plan usage in the status bar.
How it works
- A
PostToolUsehook onTodoWritewrites one JSON record per session, so concurrent sessions can’t overwrite each other. The extension watches the folder and repaints the sidebar and a status bar counter. - Rows carry the chat’s name. Titles are appended as a chat evolves, so the bridge reads the last 128 KB of the transcript and prefers a manual rename over the generated title.
- Finished runs are logged to a daily markdown note, one section per chat, rewritten only when the checklist changed and only inside a configured notes folder, so repositories stay clean.
- Plan usage lives in the companion, claude-stats: it reads the usage Claude Code passes to its status line hook and turns amber past 80% and red past 95%.
Why it matters
A long agent run stops being a black box. I can see where each session has got to and how much plan I have left without asking.
